We believe tourism is part of Santa Cruz's rich fabric, and Vacation Rentals support Community Safety, Affordable Housing & Local Business.
In 2016, Vacation Rentals contributed nearly $1,000,000 in Santa Cruz City taxes. If Vacation Rentals are banned, Santa Cruz could have to cut up to 10 police officers, eliminate funding for Affordable Housing or worse.
At present, vacation rentals comprise barely 1% of housing stock in the City. Vacation Rentals have long been an accepted use in our City and are actively encouraged by the CA Coastal Commission. The City has certified registration of vacation rentals and accepted TOT taxes on behalf of existing short term rental owners, but are now considering a total ban. The Santa Cruz County Rental & Visitors Alliance (SCCRVA) is a coalition of homeowners, rental owners, renters, business owners and property managers. SCCRVA represents, supports, and protects residential property owners’ rights by working with elected officials, government staff, and the media. It monitors legislation that could impact your property. Proposed laws and regulations are reviewed and a position is presented to government officials to get a win-win-win result – a win for the local economy, a win for neighborhoods, and a win for homeowners.
